Dr. Bruce Mathes who is a dentist in Peoria, IL

‘‘We're here to get you and your smile healthy! My team and I promise to provide you our honest recommendations - not sell you dentistry."

Why did you choose dentistry?

“I chose to become a Peoria dentist because I always wanted to help people by using my love of the sciences and abilities with my hands in a health-related field.”

What is the best part of Bruce Mathes DDS?

“The best part of my job is seeing the results of helping someone with their smile. It may be helping them achieve a better level of oral care or helping restore their smile or giving them a brighter whiter smile. I love building the relationships between myself, staff, and my patients. We truly do care about you, not just your oral health.”

What flavor of ice cream would you be?

“At first, I was trying to think of a unique ice cream like Mackinaw Island Fudge, but then I settled on vanilla. OK, sounds kind of boring, but what is better than vanilla and strawberries or vanilla and blueberries? Or, how about vanilla on a chocolate brownie and chocolate syrup or vanilla on an apple pie. Or just plain vanilla on a hot summer day! I guess that is how you might describe me being versatile and having many interests.”

Office Manager

“I was born in Bloomington, IL, and have lived in Peoria for five years. I’ve been a dental assistant for almost eight years and enjoy all aspects of dentistry. I moved to Peoria to be closer to my family and four-year-old nephew. I’m engaged and I’ll be getting married May 5th of this year to my fiance Paul Lawrence, who is a Peoria fireman.

“I chose the dental field as a career because I grew up having terrible dental experiences. I enjoy helping my patients to better understand dental procedures and ensure it is a calm, pain-free experience.”

  • Cross-trained to do the front office duties such as scheduling, payments, answering phones, and daily duties
  • Been a dental assistant for almost eight years
  • Certified for sealants and coronal polishing

What do you do outside of the office?

“When I’m not at work, I like to spend my time outdoors. I go hiking with my cairn terrier mix Sparky. I also take him kayaking with me. I spend my time hiking, fishing, kayaking, and boating – anything on the water.”

Lynn who is the Dental Hygienist at Bruce Mathes DDS

Dental Hygienist

“I provide cleaning and preventive services to our patients, and play a vital role in patient education and encouraging continuation of good oral hygiene habits at home. Many of my patients have been coming to our office for a long time and it’s great to build lasting relationships with them. I love knowing that, in the time they’ve spent with me, I have not only helped them look and feel better, but have also improved their health by educating them on maintaining or improving the health of their smiles. I really appreciate working with Dr. Mathes as well; he truly cares about his patients. He is dedicated to providing his patients with the most conservative and state-of-the-art dental procedures.

“I was born and raised right here in Peoria. I am married with two grown daughters and an adorable Papillon named Bentley. I have vegetable and fruit gardens and enjoy sharing the produce with my family and friends. I am also a passionate follower of Christ.”

Lisa who is the dental assistant at Bruce Mathes DDS

Dental Hygienist

“My husband Scott and I met in high school and married 23 years ago. We were both raised in the Metamora/Germantown Hills area, which is where we live with our son and daughter. Our children are young teenagers, so we’ve discovered to embrace each moment, and make all the memories we can because they grow up so quickly! Our family pet is very special to all of us. ‘Pippy’ is our sweet, high-energy Australian Shepherd who needs the long walks as much as we do!

“I chose the dental field as a career because a healthy smile is one of the first impressions a person notices. Having the privilege to help others achieve and maintain a high appreciation for their smiles is very rewarding at the end of the day.”

Dental Experience:

  • Been a dental hygienist for 25 years
  • Started working for Dr. Mathes in 2015
  • Certificate in Dental Hygiene Associated in Applied Science

What do you do outside of the office?

“Much of our spare time is spent at either track meets, softball games, or volleyball games… whatever season our kids are currently in. Our parents are a top priority, so we enjoy family nights where our kids see the value of family on this journey! My hobbies are taking Pippy on long walks with my husband and scrapbooking all these precious memories!”

Who is your hero? Why?

“My hero is my Savior – hands down. As a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a friend, and whatever role I’m forgetting, He has been my guide every bit of the way on my journey!”

What’s one item on your bucket list?

“Never in my life have I had a bucket list, but if I had to put one thing down, it would probably be to be debt-free by 55….so we could really enjoy some amazing vacation spots. A hot air balloon ride would be pretty amazing too! (I can’t imagine the view!)”

I have been a patient of Dr. Mathes for several years. He does excellent work, is very friendly and sincerely cares about my well-being and the health of my teeth. I highly recommend Dr. Mathes to anyone looking me a new dentist.
